Installing Windows XP on a Netbook Via USB (Acer Aspire One)
If you have issues with this, try the alternative install (scroll down a bit): duncsweb.com Note: Installation may vary with laptop model and flash drive, you may encounter issues, this is just what I did. Here I talk about how I installed Windows XP on my Acer Aspire One A110 with just a USB Thumb Drive (Kingston DataTraveller 100 1GB). This is aimed at a how-to for anyone in a similar situation. This was done using the USB Multiboot Tool (Credit and Kudos to the authors). www.boot-land.net…

i figured it out.
i only watched how to make the bootable flash drive. didn’t realize i had to boot back into the flash drive afterwards to finish it up. have done this a million times- just not on a netbook this way. blah!
anyway- it looks like it will work. i’m on a Acer Aspire One D250
grr this is a pain in the ass…
the hal.dll file says its missing but when i load it up with the flash drive in, i look in c:windowssystem32 and find hal.dll sitting there! suggestions?
Will it work with a Kingston DataTraveller 100 4GB ? thx
that sucks =(

Works perfectly on my A110
Hehe, yeah i made the same mistake myself. Now i have it working 100%.
thanks dude your awesome!
yes dude ur a jesus. ich got only problems with my netbook, but ur way and ur tutorial helped me to get a early christmas gift. 3 month anger are now away.
sry for my bad english but im a german who speaks 3 other languages
works on Asus Eee
If you can’t get rid of the hal.dll error message, make sure your C: is partition 1, and you don’t have the recovery partition above it. (It doesn’t have a letter, just a dash)
It didn’t work for me until I deleted it and got C: as the first partition to show up in the list.
Now, does anyone know where to get the drivers for the Aspire One? The screen is showing the wrong res. :/
i got yesterday a problem with my eee pc while ist was installing i want follow step 2 and 3 but die system32/hal.dll ist missed or corrupt.
can you helpe me how do you maked this on your eee pc?
I get an error when I click on USB_Multiboot_10 in the Zip file. It says:
***** ERROR – File makebtTEE.BAT is Missing *****
Press any key to continue…
When I click any key the window closes but nothing happens.
That’s the netbook I have. can you walk me through it? my problem is that when I DL the USB_multiboot_10 zip I get an error and can’t run it. suggestions?
Also, XP was already installed on this computer but it seems buggy. Will this work as a re-install, or should I try to do that by connecting a disc drive and running an XP CD?
Thanks for any help
i had the same problem..
copy it to the simplest address, means copy the usb multiboot 10 folder to direct in C drive or else, not copy in the bigger address
where do u get the drivers from?
i keep getting
***** driveletter: has NOT FAT FAT32 or NTFS Format and is NOT Valid *****
and i tried with the HP and the FAT form multiboot, formatted with a mac to FAT, formatted with xp, vista, and windows 7, and didnts change a thing, then tired it with a diff drive and game me the same problem, then downlaoded it again…. tried all over didnt work…. WTF?!?!?
instead of choosing from CD can i load it from an ISO file i have on XP?
or would i have to mount that ISO file then choose it
please someone get back to me i need to do this asap!
i´m with tha same problem buddy,, but yea you got to extract the iso file so it would be whole when your about to install,,, i´m having trouble wth the part with the ntldr boot sector option,, it dosnt apear when i´m doin this,, why?
how do you get to the boot menu,,so i can choose my pen drive
somone help quick,, please
You’ll have to enable the option in bios. And, while you’re at it, you should change the option at the SATA drive (or something like this) from AHCI to IDE (if you’re planning to install windows XP because windows XP does not recognise a SATA HDD)
I am trying since yesterday to format the Aspire one…
