Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote
Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space. By Johnny Chung Lee, Carnegie Mellon University. you could hook up some kind of treadmill to it so you could walk an unlimitted amount in levels also..
Thx LEE xD
This is one of the most promising aspects of the Natal Xbox project… the player-aware camera could track your head and adjust the perspective accordingly… I too wanna see some games using this!!! the tech is right here!!
Cheers

Good communication skills.
Good presentation.
Cool project.
Awesome results.
Hope you have a good job on I+D on the future. ^^
lawl i dont think you want to do that for more then like … 20 mins … its extreme sports then xD
Hey dumbasses – HE WORKS FOR MICROSOFT. Check his credentials on his website.
“DERPP Go work for nenteendo or sawny buhhh”
…God i wish eugenics applied to Youtube.
Can’t wait for the video game!!!!
Wow, great ideas.
Incidentally, couldn’t you have multiple players/users if both/all of them have liquid crystal flicker-glasses? Y’know, like the ones used for 3D, only both would flicker at once, just for alternating players.
Hm… methinks it is time for the next console war to take place in… VIRTUAL REALITY!!!
I believe he used to work for some university. I guess he got an offer from Microsoft after this demonstration.
The ONLY way to unlock your Wii to play copied, backup, and import Wii games, plus DVD’s and homebrew WITHOUT a mod chip is to use:
nintendo-wii-homebrew-unlock-hack.blogspot(DOT)com
This works on ANY Wii, even the new 4.2, and does NOT require Zelda or void your warranty!
Is there any way for random person (me) to do this or is it really technical?
I really don’t wanna have to shell out for track ir for il-2.
topppppp really cooool
Great discovery. Nintendo are very foolish not to take full advantage of this and release a lot of games that use it.
I wonder if Xbox 360’s Natal system can be used in a similar way.
HAIL JOHNNY LEE! HAIL JOHNNY LEE! C’mon everybody, don’t be shy…HAIL JOHNNY LEE!
Congratulations. You’ve successfully re-invented the Track IR — a device that’s been on the market for years. The 3D stuff can be duplicated with simple coding and a cheap pair of paper glasses.
Not impressed.
Treadmill would not work because then you aren’t changing your perspective at all. You are staying stationary on it. This technology works for real movement. A treadmill setup would be more applicable for today’s game systems were the treadmill would equivalent to your joystick.
cool can u use it while u play a game
you are a genious…..
awesome
please watch my latest one vid i’m desbret
