How do you fix a wii error code when it says “error 003 unauthorized device has been detected”?
I have updated my wii to 4.2 today. Now whenever i turn it on it says “error 003: unauthorized device has been detected,” and the screen goes all black with that message. I cant go to the wii menu or do anything! I tried resetting it and nothing happens. I bought my wii from korea and I am not sure if that is the cause. But all my controllers and games are from here and I don’t want to waste over 600 bucks.

I’m sorry but you cannot fix your Wii without sending it to Nintendo. It’s because the System Menu 4.2 was *only* made to remove homebrew and it also detects and bricks Wiis that have been region changed (like yours). Previous system menu versions (4.1 and below) did nothing of the sort and if you had of upgraded to 4.1 then you would have been fine, but oh well. Your games and controllers still work so either buy a new Wii or get it repaired by Nintendo. Sorry
I feel so bad for ppl who didnt buy their wii the year it came out when hacking it was so easy. Now new wiis auto updates to v4.2 and no one has been able to find a work around but give us a couple of months and the homebrew community will definately find a way around this problem. For you issue, there is nothing you can do really but return it and get your money. That should be possible unless they have a no return policy.
Well your SOL! Sorry! probably not what you wanted to hear. Just buy a new one they just dropped the price down to $200 USD! Also get at least a 2YR Warranty.

Sounds like you accidentally bought a hacked Wii. When you upgrade the firmware found the hack and now your Wii may be bricked. Try this: while holding down the reset button, turn on the power to the Wii. If a menu comes up then your wii is definitely hacked but it has a brick safety program to get you out of it. If nothing happens then you may be out of luck. Since you bought from Korea and it still allows you to play it in America then there is a good chance that your Wii is modded. I would say return it to the person you got it from but that seems to be out of the question.
