I anxiously awaited the release of the game and am very happy I got it right away! I have the Wii Fit but I wanted a continuous workout that was easy on my knees. I have tried several other active games but they aren’t truly exercise and were killer on my knees with lots of jumping, etc.
In this game, you walk along to the music and as you hit the beats, you earn points. You then use the points to build the town around you. It gets easier to hit the beats as you learn the songs.
Despite what other people have said, you can pick up your heels and walk to the beat. I think the directions to the game are misleading. They say not to remove your feet entirely from the board but I’m taking that to mean always having a foot on the board. The instruction guide states that you can lift your ankles but to not take any big steps because you might injure yourself or hurt the board. That said, I am going to buy a mat to use with this game. Several times I have almost walked myself off the front of the board during a song I like. It is hard to feel the edge of the board through shoes. I tried the game with just the nunchuck and controller. You place the nunchuck in your pocket to track your steps. I found it more difficult to control with just the main controller.
I hope this is the start of a new wave of games for the Wii. I can see a lot of potential and some small changes would make a big difference. As others have said, the map is annoyingly small and I wish you could customize your character more. You have to go into a seperate menu to check the map and other stats. The addition of small icons along the bottom of the screen to check these common items would allow for more continuous play as right now, you have to stop the walking screen to get this information.
Despite these small things, I think that this is a worthy buy. It is going to take a long time to create the entire island and its a nice way to get indoor exercise.

I give this game a five out of five rating for pretty much the same reasons the other top posters have given so I won’t go into that anymore here.
The one point of caution I want to note is that in my opinion the game is best done using the Wii Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) Pad. You however have to have that EXACT PAD. I first ordered just the game from Amazon and then I figured I would want a dancing pad so since I did not already have DDR I ordered the Wii Wireless Dance Mat with Foam Pad that is also for sale on Amazon. I figured I would prefer the extra padding since I would be using it to walk a lot and the wireless aspect would be helpful etc.
Unfortunately the game would not recognize it. I then went to Best Buy and all they had in stock was a generic dance mat that has three corded extension on it so it can work with the Wii or Play Station or the Xbox etc. it was corded instead of wireless so I went ahead and bought it figuring maybe that was the issue but alas the game would not recognize that one either.
So I finally just went to Gamestop and bought DDR III with an included dance pad and that worked just fine. So I will keep the generic pad so I have two since I bought DDR III anyway, and send the wireless pad back. All three work with DDR III but Walk it Out ONLY works with the official DDR pad so make sure that is what you get. Other than that I found that the pad definitely is more accurate and works better and more easily than the

Since it arrived we have not stopped playing it! My 4 year old even enjoys walking to the beat & making scenery “magically” appear! Exercise at it’s best without even knowing your doing it!

I have several other Wii fitness games and purchased this one for a more casual aerobic workout. I also figured the kids might make some use of it since it looked fun. After several days, I am still undecided about whether it was a good purchase but I’m trying to keep an open mind!
CONTROLLER+NUNCHUK Option: I tried this choice first so I could use it while walking on my treadmill. I had to put the nunchuk pretty close to my knee in order to have it correctly register every step; maybe this is due to the fact that the ‘bar’ of my treadmill was blocking the nunchuk–>controller visual during part of the walk? I enjoyed using the treadmill and simply varied the speed to keep in time with the various tunes. CONS with this option: 1)keeping the nunchuk aligned with the controller so all steps counted; 2)selecting the icons along the route was almost impossible—too much jiggling with the treadmill and the fact that I was really WALKING.
CONTROLLER+BALANCE BOARD Option: Against the advice of the game, I actually lifted my feet on the board (but softly). I didn’t have an issue staying on the board. It was much easier to select the icons this way since my body was notmoving as much as when on the treadmill. CONS with this option: 1)this version of walking-in-place is definitely not a real aerobic workout compared to the treadmill; it is certainly, however, working other muscles in your calves and thighs so I guess that might be a bonus; 2) keeping in true step was more difficult on the board—so I didn’t rack up as many points.
I will try the Controller+dancemat option tonight but I expect I will have similar issues as with the board since again you’re not really WALKING.
Overall I think it has potential. It’s not as boring as walking on the treadmill alone so that’s good. Unlocking the different icons is interesting and the music is varied in speed and type, which I like. One thing I did NOT like initially was the fact that the game began with me walking “in the dark” since I have done the game late at night each time. I have not yet unlocked the Magic Clock that will allow me to change the time of day in the game so I am still walking under the stars. The game does not have enough instruction in the manual itself so pay attention the first few times you play to your Trainer who is explaining some of the details!

I need to offer some contrary opinion about this game.
This game doesn’t seem to have any purpose or challenge. All you do is walk and try to match a little to the beat, but it is not really a challenge.
If the current price twenty seven dollars is not an issue with you, then i guess it doesn’t hurt to get it anyway, to add to your library. Otherwise, try Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus first, or Just Dance.
Wii Fit Plus’s Basic Running is more fun than this game. The Wii Fit Running has a person leading you to run all around, to left and right, and you run near the waterfall, on a bridge, even on the roof. It is a lot more fun.
What’s more, this walking game started as walking at night, I think because I am playing the game at night. So, I wonder how many people enjoy walking alone, at night, and aimlessly?
I then tried to change the “Magic Clock” to 8am or 1pm, so as to walk in daylight. No way, the Magic Clock blocked out all numbers, and clicking on any other thing won’t work.
How about the mini games? I tried Whack-a-Slack, and then it let me choose the Song Playlist, and I chose one, and the Game won’t start. The only option is to “Go Back” on the screen.
