If you are taking a Web Design class this is an excellent book. The tutorials are excellent, and will help you gain basic knowledge of HTML, XHTML programming. Most of the tutorials have you create something you can very easily use on your own.
The problem with this book is the case problems. There is very little support for answers or “help” for the tutorials after tutorial 9. That is why this is not the best book for online, or distance learning, if your using this book in a “second level” class – be prepared to get help.
The Index needs work as well, it’s a bit too consolidated. The online companion site is good for data downloads and quick powerpoint presentations of info in the book.

I was very pleased with this book. I needed it for school and it did what it was suppose to do.

HTML, XHTML, and Dynamic HTML is a great book for the beginning web developer, the appendices I found especially helpful as they list all HTML/XHTML tags as well as all of the character codes, and more. I would recommend this book.

If you have to buy this book for a class, then buy it. If not, stick with Google. I found more useful and relevant information by using Google and looking through the search results than this book provided.

This book is confusing and the explanations just go on and on. You can follow this book for pages and not be sure how you ended up with what you did. There are other, easier to read books on XHTML and HTML avaialable.
