Hey everyone, thought I would do a video on how I would waterproof / make my servo’s water-resistant. Some simple steps that may help prolong the use of your servos. WOW look at that corrosion Q_Q
plasti dip is not discontinued i just bought 2 cans of it a week ago i got mine from harbor freight or order it off line ..yes you can use liquid electric tape thats what i used on mine and they go in the water and snow all the time
@suthrnboy08 certain colors have been discontinued… and the major retailers have stopped carrying it.. but.. you can get it online.. or at automotive stores
oh ok just certain colors i got some red and black but i never use the red hardly .. but this is a good vid man i run alot of nitros and some electric but on the nitros the servos are the same to water proof and on the rx i just stick them in a balloon and seal the end
i actually watched that whole video… wow
do you need to peel off the plasti-Dip from the end shaft of the servo to get it to move or anything like that?
nope
Wow, great video! You should enter your video into this contest, Ewisdomtv
How long do these servos last after being waterproofed?
that happened to me too. i put it in water and it didnt turn on
the next day it worked!!
wouldent it be easer to paint on
omg amazing video. hey i have a question. i have an evx speed control and i wanna make it water resistant as much as i can. how can i do this while having those big cool heads can i just dip it right in? and when i take it out and its coverd in plastic how can i cut it open without water getting into it? plz help thnx again.
Hello my friend. Well, if you have the fins – simply dip it in the plasti-dip, and then after it dries carefully cut the additional plastic away. as is dries, it will adhere to the esc, but allow the cut away pieces to peel off – leaving a seal behind. But be forewarned.. this practice is only a preventative tactic… nothing will ever be completely waterproof, no matter how hard you try… BUT! This method can certainly help. Good luck man, and happy trails
2 questions:
is this the only thing you have to waterproof of your whole rc car?
and does it work with the standard servo that was already in the car?
please answer me, Thanks!
great video!
what video editing program do you use? the effects are amazing and i would like to use something like that for an advertising campaign im starting.
Can you use WD-40 instead of marine grease?
It looks like water could still get in around the shaft since there is no seal of any kind to prevent it from doing so. The grease is a good idea but it won’t continue to make a seal around the shaft and so water will still get in.
@breezebro the seal is actually made from the plasti-dip as it stretches with the turns. But.. advances in stronger traxxas waterproof servos make this a “if you cant afford” senario.
This is without doubt a helpful and informative video, but it did beg a question: why is it left to us to do this? I wouldn´t buy a washing machine with no rubber seal around the door; this should be done at the factory!
what kind of reciver do you have in the end of the viedo

@djmedic2008 –I do think Traxxas has done a GREAT job making their “waterPROOF” elecs. I just bought an E-Maxx and I literally used it as a sub and all I could see was the tip of the antenna LOL and I did this for about ten full minutes just to test it and all was well!!! really surprised me, but of course not everyone wants to use that stuff in the rig they build but its a good example of the fact that you can infact make them waterproof !! if only the servos had metal gears! great video!!
also just for those who want a good easy to waterproof servo…is the Hobbico Cs-170TG, it has titanium gears, its digital, where the wire goes in is waterproof and there is a nice rubber seal where the case is split, all thats needed is some “Marine” grease or a shaft seal from a traxxas servo for the out shaft..they cost around 60-70 bucks and have almost 400oz’s of torque!!! killer servo and I take mine in DEEEEP water all the time, so deep that pressure is an issue and still NP! happy trails
@Del350K4 –I really think since traxxas has started to lead the way with ‘”WATERPROOF” EVERYTHING that others will very soon start to follow and we will start to see all servos and such will be waterproof standard!! well i hope anyway!!
can you do this with a motor or battery? or both?
