  1. This is a very informative easy to read book. The labs are straight foward and very self explanatory.

  2. I just finished up a semeseter using this book for managing a windows client. The book activities are pretty good and it does a good job explaining the Vista operating system. It’s a good buy if you’re planning to use it for a college class or any other reason.
    Rating: 4 / 5

  3. As a student, I using this book in a Vista system administration course. So far, first week,I have found it well written and very practical.

  4. Unlike the others here, I have to say that I really can’t stand this book. I’ve been using computers for over 10 years and know them fairly well. I recently took this book for a college course and to me, it was over the top. Too much about Vista’s flash and flare, too much about features very few business actually would use, and it was overly technical. The labs are fine, but if you get the model with the Cert Prep CD it was just annoying. Maybe it’s just me, but I find the majority of “Thomson Course” books to be really poor. I picked up some other books that were not done by Thomson and I think the information I took away from those books was much more satisfying.

I can’t believe colleges are actually using this book. What business in their right minds would be using Vista as their main OS for computing…

So my opinion: Get yourself a better book. Maybe something from O’Reilly.
