For those who don’t like the formality of the word “thesis,” which isn’t used in common parlance, think of #2 as you “claim,” which is what Kate Turabian calls it. A thesis defense paper becomes a paper in which you make a claim and then give reasons and evidence to support it. Kate wrote A Manual For Writers, a good book on this topic.
In Greek “THESIS” (ΘΕΣΙΣ) means ‘position’, metaphorically, one’s opinion about something.

Oh, hi. Daniel. I was just watching a video. I didn’t really like the introduction. The writing was okay, but I don’t think it felt natural. What that means is, to me, they distracted me with corny acting to the point where I almost left the video. My eyes were about to roll out of my head.
I only watched this video to learn how to write a good conclusion… damn it
